DESCRIPTION:\nWhat memories do our bodies and spirits carry and remember from our ancestors? What are we able to learn about our culture, ancestors and ourselves when we take the time to listening deeply?\n\n\n\nJoin Kfarsghabi, Lebanese artists Nicole Barakat as she shares her practice as a contemporary artist working with textiles and ancestral remembrance to mark time. Hear her speak of her recent residency at the Citè Internationale des Arts in Paris where she spent time convening with a 300-year-old Lebanese cedar tree.\n\n\n\nNicole works with deep listening and intuitive processes with intentions to transform the conditions of everyday life. Her artwork engages unconventional approaches to art-making, creating intricate works that embody the love and patience characteristic of traditional textile practices.\n\n\n\nAbout the presenter\n\n\n\nThe presenter, Nicole Barakat, is a Kfarsghabi Lebanese artist. Nicole undertook an artist residency in Bethlehem, Palestine in 2010 and was recently in residence, through Creative Australia, at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France in 2023.\n\n\n\nIn 2022, she curated the exhibition and public program, re-member, at the Fairfield City Museum and Gallery.Nicole’s experience includes twenty years of collaborative community-engagement, creating a collaborative artwork with the Rohingya Women’s Development Organisation for the Powerhouse Museum’s exhibition Eucalyptusdom in 2021.\n\n\n\nNicole completed a Bachelor of Applied Arts (Craft Arts) in Textiles in 2002 with first class honours at the University of NSW Art & Design.\n\n\n\nDate: Saturday 7th Sepember at 2pm\n\n\n\nCost: $10 per person for members, $15 for non-members (payment is accepted on the day).\n\n\n\nFor more information please email: mail@alhs.org.au\n
