Australian Lebanese Historical Society Walk
A Continuous Thread: Sunday 1 June 2025
The Lebanese presence in West End and South Brisbane
Join Dr Anne Monsour, historian, author, and President of the Queensland Branch of the
Australian Lebanese Historical Society (ALHS) as she leads a walking tour of West End and
South Brisbane highlighting the Lebanese presence, influence, and legacy since the 1880s.
This fascinating walk uncovers stories of the ‘Syrian’ hawkers and shopkeepers of the
nineteenth century through the twentieth century to the present day, highlighting stories of
entrepreneurs, hard work, community spirit and family businesses many of which are
